Have a Safe July 4th !
By Destiny Dawn | July 5, 2008
It’s been a delightful holiday season this July, the weather a bit wet, but overall I have had more grilled hot dogs this week then should be legal. I slept most of today away with some abdominal cramping left over from the latest dose of antibiotics taken for a tooth abscess. The antibiotics cost $85 (yea for the generic!) so I took them although they caused severe diarrhea sense the first pill. It’s eased up, but it’s still very uncomfortable. Not exactly how I wanted to spend the holiday .. on the toilet, but a few beers seemed it make it all better for a while. Or at least I didn’t care so much eh?
Oh sorry, I’m sure you don’t really want to hear bout that ..
I’ll give ya the good and the bad of the week as a whole.
On the bad side. Bill went out to close the window in my van and ended up parking it .. in the garden. We had to get a hand from a neighbor to pull the van out of the mud today. He says it was an accident - but I have my suspicions that malice may be in play, cuzz no one can be that dumb can they?
On the good side I had friends come and visit my isolated little valley. We shared many laughs, beers and some hamburgers. Family came in, the grill smelled terrific and the kids played safely without putting an eye out.
I didn’t get to fireworks today, I ended up taking a nap and missing a cook out this afternoon as well - but the kids were well entertained and I got watergate salad to munch on this evening and what can be better then that?
I hope everyone is having a great 4th and I look for business to get back to normal around here by Monday. Have a safe weekend all!

All this braking is keeping me broke …
By Destiny Dawn | June 27, 2008
Sorry I’ve been away from the blog so long. It’s been one heck of a spring. Everything broke this spring. It’s one of those times that is so surreal it’s a comedy of errors. I mean, if you think I am exaggerating … read this.
This Spring (2008) …
The brakes went out on the farm truck and the lugs won’t brake free to fix them. We did brake two tire tools and several breaker bars trying.
The van needed all 4 brakes and a rotor. Got it fixed in time for the starter to go out.
The car needed a 4 wheel alignment. Got it done in time for a brake line to snap.
The rotatiller needs the carb rebuilt and will not stay running. Not that it will stop raining long enough to till.
The riding mower busted a belt. Got a new one, and the second belt went. Got a new one and now the blades are need replaced.
The head on the weed eater broke. Got a new one .. but it don’t fit.
The microwave started taking 3-4 minutes to heat a cup a coffee. Got another at a yard sale - the digital numbers don’t work.
My refrigerator died a sudden death with no change of revival. Bought a new one that took 3 weeks to get delivered and it’s missing the bottom door hinges.
Battery in one of the cordless phones stopped holding a charge and the corded phone was brought out of storage.
My dirt bike is dead in the garage needing a clutch cable.
One of the breakers in my electric box died - leaving half my kitchen without power.
The electric can opener died … and YES I tested it in a working outlet.
I dropped my voice recorder and of course it busted in a way that duct tape can’t even fix.
The oven coils in my stove quit working.
AAUURRGGGHHHH!!!!
Oh I’m sure I am forgetting a few things, but these are the ones I can think of that cost or will yet cost to get right.
So if I seem a little spacey or disconnected - you can plainly see why .. I am trying to put the pieces back together again!

I got a funny farm story for you …
By Destiny Dawn | June 12, 2008
If you know Bill this will be even funnier … if you do not know Bill .. you are about to meet him.
Bill has been doing my yard work out on the farm. In his rush to get the yard mowed he throws the tractor in third gear and tries to pull a Amish Speed Racer or something. He don’t know my yard that well yet and he isn’t the quickest thinker either. But for all it’s worth I was damn thankful it was Bill out there in the 90 degree sun getting the yard cut. The grass got behind while the tractor was broke down and was nearly knee high in spots.
So it’s early in the afternoon and I am on the phone talking business when I hear him holler something, I figure he is yelling at Devin to move a toy or get out of the way. I glance out the side door and do not see anything and walk back to the office, phone on ear, and sit down in front of the fan.
From my office window I can see, Vickie up by her house talking to a neighbor who had stopped by. As I am sitting there smoking a cigg movement in the yard catches my eye. I look up in time to see Vickie, the neighbor and Devin all running down the hill with very worried expressions on their faces.
In a split second I remember that holler I heard earlier and I think .. wait a second, I do not hear the tractor running.
My heart skips a beat as I run to the back door in the direction of everyone else.
As I get to the door way, I can see tire tracks on the fresh wet cut grass and muddy ruts leading to the edge of the hill. On the other side of this drop off is a very steep 30 yard drop.
That’s when the top of Devins’ head flew open and he started to scream bloody murder. All sorts of terribly gruesome images went through my head of the damage that mower could do if it hit a person .. and I couldn’t see over that edge of that hill. Vickie and the neighbor start down over the hill and I run to Devin to try and sooth his shrieks of terror.
Devin clutches on to me .. sobbing uncontrollably and then he says it …
he says ——– Oh no no no no …… he broke our tractor ..I love that tractor!
I looked down the hill and the tractor was just 10 foot from the top leading against a tree, Bill had got flung off on down the hill and was walking back up the hill grumbling about all the thorns and burrs down the path he had been tossed.
Vickie almost called an ambulance, but it wasn’tt for Bill, it was for me from laughing so hard.
Bill was happy the tree saved his life, Devin was happy that the tractor wasn’t broke and I am just happy that it didn’t happen to me ..
So my funny little story comes to a happy ending on the Do Duh’ Ranch!

Death of a Refrigerator
By Destiny Dawn | May 29, 2008
One of the common household items that we take for granted most.
The refrigerator.
This one appliance can bring the daily operations of a home to a dead stop when it malfunctions.
Like life out here on this isolated valley isn’t hard enough my fridge decides to take a crap.
At first I thought it needed a good defrosting. A few years ago it acted up from ice built up on the freezer coils. So I unplugged it, let it thaw for a couple of days and plugged it back in. A few hours later I realized it was not getting cold. And to my dismay by that evening the motor had stopped running completely.
Now I got several problems. No fridge for starters.
I am 15 miles from the nearest town, where to find a cheap used fridge quick?
The farm truck doesn’t have valid street tags …. how do I haul a new one when I find one?
And .. what in the world can I do with the old one?
I’ve been reading the classifieds and very few people will deliver - I can’t afford delivery charges for those who do!
I have considered calling rent a center - at least they deliver - but then I am stuck paying twice what the fridge will be worth.
Maybe I should call around and get estimates from appliance repair men? I don’t even know of any in the area. Hrmmm.. I guess tomorrow I let my fingers do the walking and see what I come up with in the phone book.
What a pain!

Closing the eBay Store
By Destiny Dawn | May 12, 2008
It’s official - eBay stores are not the place to try and sell rare books. I am closing my ebay store.
I will be looking for a new avenue to sell some of my rare, advanced copy, and signed books over the summer. So if you know of anything - let me know!
